Anne Kurris
Anne Kurris was born in 1959 in Antwerp.
She studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts and Sint Lucas College, both in Antwerp.
The former ‘Ancienne Belgique’ in Brussels got her to design in 1986 the fashion posters for ‘Le Défilé ‘, directed by Jean Paul Gaultier and Régine Chopinot.
Dries Van Noten gave her a permanent job as a graphic designer (which she has been doing for more than 20 seasons). She designed invitations for Walter Van Beirendonck and Dirk Van Saene. In the eighties she was the graphic designer of the
starting magazine BAM!-the voice for ‘The Antwerp Six ’ fashion designers.
She designed posters and catalogues for the famous Fashion Department of the Royal
Academy of Antwerp (where she was a lecturer). Apart from her work in the fashion world, Anne Kurris has also been active in the cultural sector. She was nominated
for the series of posters Paul Van Ostayen 100 years and for several bookcovers
she designed for Flemish autors. The Flemish Opera in Antwerp has been one of her many principals.
In 1997 she launched Anne Kurris kids wear collection, wich constitutes a fresh challenge. Her style is characterized by an off-beat graphic vision and the quest for innovation. The collection is now selling in the top of the range stores all over the world.
For this 10th anniversary, the children who modelled for the very first photo shooting (photo’s Ronald Stoops) came back to be “styled” by Dirk Van Saene in confronting pictures. The graphic interpretation of naive and clear images on paper dresses can be seen in a installation during Vitrine, organized by the Flanders Fashion Institute.
